THE OUT FOUNDATION
The OUT Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded by Brigham Young University LGBTQ+ alumni in order to empower the LGBTQ+ alumni and current LGBTQ+ students of BYU in achieving their intellectual, social, and professional potential. It is dedicated to connecting and supporting LGBTQ+ alumni, distributing financial grants to LGBTQ+ students, documenting the history of the LGBTQ+ experience at BYU, and providing a platform for alumni stories.
The OUT Foundation is a passion project of mine that grew out of my experience of attending Brigham Young University and seeing the lack of resources available for the LGBTQ+ community. With a small group of alumni, we set out to create this non-profit. Interbrand NY kindly donated time and resources of its design team to help in the creation of this stellar brand identity.
The main icon is a play on the Mormon symbol of the bee representing a small group/hive working together toward a common goal. The bee’s stripes change to match the different flags of the LGBTQ+ community. Other visual metaphors of such as hives, honeycombs, etc., inform the collateral design.
